  2. One table at a timePractise a table until its row turns green on the fact grid, then move on.

  4. Beat your own bestTry to beat your personal best, not anyone else’s.

Handy tricks

a × b = b × aSwap it round

Learn one fact and you get its partner free.

Example8 × 3 = 3 × 8 = 24
× 4  × 8Keep doubling

× 4 is double, then double again. × 8 is double three times.

Example: 6 × 46 → 12 → 24
× 5Half of × 10

Times by 10, then halve the answer.

Example: 7 × 57 × 10 = 70, half = 35
× 9Digits add up to 9

Up to 9 × 10: the tens digit is one less than the number, and the two digits add up to 9.

Example: 9 × 77 − 1 = 6, then 6 + 3 = 9 → 63
× 11Repeat the digit

From 11 × 1 to 11 × 9, write the digit twice.

Example: 11 × 666
× 12× 10 plus × 2

Times by 10, times by 2, then add them together.

Example: 12 × 770 + 14 = 84
