Slough Consortium and Reading Grammar Schools 11+ Entrance Examinations
Important Dates and Registration Links for 2027 Entry
This page gives parents the key dates, registration links and application deadlines for the 11+ entrance examinations for the Slough Consortium of Grammar Schools, Kendrick School and Reading School for September 2027 entry.
Unlike the West Midlands Grammar Schools process, Slough and Reading do not use one single shared registration portal. Parents must register separately depending on which schools they are targeting.
The Slough Consortium includes Herschel Grammar School, Langley Grammar School, St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School and Upton Court Grammar School. The four schools use one shared Slough Consortium 11+ test.
The Slough Consortium and Kendrick School use GL Assessment-style tests. Reading School uses the FSCE Entrance Test, with a different process and earlier test dates.

Kendrick School 11+ Test
Kendrick School is a girls’ grammar school in Reading.
Kendrick’s admission test takes place on Friday, 18 September 2026 for candidates living in the designated area. Candidates living outside the designated area will be tested on a later date to be advised by the school.
Kendrick candidates sit two test papers of approximately one hour each. The tests cover English, Mathematics, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning. There is no creative writing element.
Key Kendrick dates:

| Friday, 1 May 2026 | Registration opens |
| Wednesday, 1 July 2026, midnight | Registration closes |
| Friday, 18 September 2026 | Test date for designated-area candidates |

Parents living outside Kendrick’s designated area should read Kendrick’s guidance carefully, as the school strongly advises out-of-area parents not to register unless they fully understand the admissions implications.
Reading School Entrance Test
Reading School is a boys’ grammar school and has a different process from Slough and Kendrick.
Reading School uses the FSCE Entrance Test. The school explains that the entrance test content changes each year, and the familiarisation guide is not a guarantee of the exact question types that will appear in the actual test.
Key Reading School dates:
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| Wednesday, 25 March 2026 | Registration window opens |
| Sunday, 17 May 2026, midnight | Registration deadline |

Reading School tests much earlier than Slough and Kendrick, so parents targeting Reading School must pay close attention to the earlier registration and July test dates.
Results and Secondary School Application
11+ Results
The 11+ results are normally released before the Local Authority application deadline so that parents can make informed school choices.
- Slough Consortium: results are made available online in mid-October 2026.
- Reading School: results are expected in mid-October 2026.
- Kendrick School: results are sent by email link before 31 October 2026.
These results indicate whether your child can be considered for a grammar school place. They are not an offer of a school place.
Local Authority Common Application Form
Parents must submit the secondary school Common Application Form through their home Local Authority by:
Saturday, 31 October 2026
Registering for the 11+ test does not count as applying for a school place. Parents must complete both steps:
- Register for the relevant 11+ entrance test.
- Submit the Local Authority Common Application Form.
GOV.UK states that parents must apply for a secondary school place by 31 October, and secondary school offers are sent on 1 March, or the next working day if that date falls on a weekend or bank holiday.
Important Notes for Parents
- Slough, Kendrick and Reading School use separate registration systems. Registering for one test does not automatically register your child for the others.
- Slough Consortium registration covers the four Slough grammar schools only: Herschel, Langley, St Bernard’s and Upton Court.
- Slough Consortium 11+ results are not shared with Kendrick School or Reading School. The Slough guide states that there is no facility for sharing 11+ scores between Slough, Kendrick and Reading School.
- Reading School tests much earlier than Slough and Kendrick. Reading School’s main test date is in July 2026, while Slough and Kendrick test in September 2026.
- If applying to St Bernard’s Catholic Grammar School, parents should check whether a Supplementary Information Form is required and submit it directly to the school by the stated deadline.
- The 11+ test registration is not the same as the Local Authority school application.
- Achieving the eligibility score or being assessed as suitable does not guarantee a grammar school place. Parents must still name the school on the CAF and the school’s oversubscription criteria will apply.
- Parents should always check the official school websites before deadlines, as arrangements can vary depending on catchment area, test centre arrangements, SEND/access arrangements and school-specific admissions policies.

Registration Information
Children attending a state-funded Buckinghamshire primary school do not need to be registered by parents. They are automatically entered for the Secondary Transfer Test.
Parents must register their child if the child attends:
- a Buckinghamshire partner school;
- an independent school;
- a school outside Buckinghamshire;
- a school in Milton Keynes, as Milton Keynes is not part of Buckinghamshire for this process;
- any other school where automatic registration does not apply.
Registration opens at 10.00am on Friday, 1 May 2026 and closes at 3.00pm on Tuesday, 2 June 2026.
Register for the Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test here
Examination Format
The Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test is produced by GL Assessment. It measures verbal, non-verbal and mathematical skills.
Children sit two test papers, each lasting approximately 60 minutes, with a break between the papers. There is also a shorter practice test, usually taken two days before the main test, to help children understand what to expect.
Where Children Sit the Test
Children attending a state-funded Buckinghamshire primary school or a partner school will usually sit the Practice Test and Secondary Transfer Test in school during the school day.
Children attending other schools will usually be invited to sit the tests at a Buckinghamshire grammar school or another central test venue. For most children this will be on 8 September and 10 September 2026, although some children may be tested slightly later if venue capacity is limited.
Parents cannot choose the test time, date or venue. These details are allocated and sent by email in the formal test invitation.
Results and Secondary School Application
Results are due to be released on Friday, 9 October 2026 for children who sat the main test on Thursday, 10 September 2026.
A score of at least 121 means a child is considered qualified for a Buckinghamshire grammar school. However, qualifying does not guarantee a place.
Parents must still include their preferred Buckinghamshire grammar school or schools on the secondary school application / Common Application Form submitted to their home Local Authority by Saturday, 31 October 2026.
If you live outside Buckinghamshire, you should apply through your own home Local Authority, not through Buckinghamshire Council.
Important Notes for Parents
- The Buckinghamshire Secondary Transfer Test is the common 11+ test used by the 13 Buckinghamshire grammar schools.
- Children attending state-funded Buckinghamshire primary schools are automatically entered for the test.
- Children at partner schools, independent schools, Milton Keynes schools and other schools outside Buckinghamshire usually need to be registered by parents.
- The registration deadline is 3.00pm on Tuesday, 2 June 2026. Late registration is not normally accepted unless there are exceptional reasons.
- Access arrangement requests must be submitted by the child’s headteacher. The deadline is 2 June 2026 for state-funded Buckinghamshire primary schools and partner schools, and 16 June 2026 for all other schools.
- Parents should check spam or junk folders if they are expecting a test invitation and have not received it by 7 August 2026.
- The test result is not the same as a school application. Parents must still submit the Local Authority secondary school application by 31 October 2026.
- Qualifying in the test does not guarantee a grammar school place. Places are allocated according to each school’s admissions rules and oversubscription criteria.
- For Buckinghamshire grammar school allocation, once a child is qualified, a higher test score does not give extra priority for a place.
- Always check the official Buckinghamshire Council website and individual school admissions policies before making decisions.

Important: Your child will not be offered a place at a grammar school if that school has not been listed on your Local Authority secondary school application form.

Results and Secondary School Application
Entrance test results are used to help parents decide which schools to list on the Local Authority Common Application Form. Passing or performing well in an entrance test does not guarantee a grammar school place.
Parents must still apply for secondary school places through their home Local Authority by:
Saturday, 31 October 2026
Registering for an 11+ entrance test is not the same as applying for a school place. Parents must complete both steps:
- Register for the relevant school’s entrance examination.
- Submit the Local Authority secondary school application / Common Application Form.
National Secondary School Offer Day is Monday, 1 March 2027.
Important Notes for Parents
- Barnet grammar schools have separate admissions and registration processes.
- Registering for The Henrietta Barnett School does not register your child for St Michael’s or Queen Elizabeth’s School.
- The Henrietta Barnett School uses a two-round entrance examination process.
- Queen Elizabeth’s School entrance testing is for boys and includes multiple-choice Mathematics and English papers.
- St Michael’s Catholic Grammar School has faith-based admissions requirements, so parents must check the school’s admissions policy and document requirements carefully.
- Entrance test registration is separate from the Local Authority secondary school application.
- Parents must list the relevant school on the Common Application Form if they want their child to be considered for a place.
- Meeting the academic standard or being invited to a later stage does not guarantee a place. Final allocation depends on each school’s admissions policy and oversubscription criteria.
- Parents should always check the individual school admissions websites for the most accurate and up-to-date information.

Register for the Sutton Selective Eligibility Test here
Examination Format
The Sutton Selective Eligibility Test consists of two multiple-choice papers:
- English
- Mathematics
The SET does not include Verbal Reasoning or Non-Verbal Reasoning. Candidates record their answers on a separate answer sheet.
Children who meet the relevant SET standard for one or more of the selective grammar schools may then be invited to sit the appropriate second-stage entrance examination.
Second-Stage Entrance Examinations
Nonsuch High School for Girls and Wallington High School for Girls
Candidates who pass the SET for Nonsuch High School for Girls or Wallington High School for Girls may be invited to the shared girls’ second-stage entrance examination on:
Saturday, 26 September 2026
Sutton Grammar School, Wilson’s School and Wallington County Grammar School
Candidates who pass the SET for Sutton Grammar School, Wilson’s School or Wallington County Grammar School may be invited to the shared boys’ second-stage entrance examination on:
Saturday, 3 October 2026
Wilson’s School states that its second-stage entrance examination consists of English and Mathematics, and that the aggregate score is calculated using the SET and second-stage elements.
Greenshaw High School Partially-Selective Places
Greenshaw High School is not a fully selective grammar school. It is a mixed comprehensive school with partially-selective ability places.
For 2027 entry, Greenshaw High School uses the Sutton SET to identify pupils who may be considered for up to 60 ability places. Students need to achieve the required pass mark to be considered under the school’s ability criterion.
Greenshaw does not have the same second-stage grammar school test process. Parents who want their child to be considered for one of Greenshaw’s ability places must register for the SET and also name Greenshaw High School on the Common Application Form.
View Greenshaw High School 2027 SET information here
Results and Secondary School Application
SET outcome emails are expected during the week after the Selective Eligibility Test. Passing the SET does not automatically mean your child has a school place.
For the selective grammar schools, a successful SET outcome means your child may be invited to the relevant second-stage entrance examination. For Greenshaw High School, the SET is used to decide whether your child may be considered for one of the ability places.
Parents must still submit the secondary school Common Application Form through their home Local Authority by:
Saturday, 31 October 2026
Registering for the SET is not the same as applying for a school place. Parents must complete both steps:
- Register for the Sutton Selective Eligibility Test.
- Submit the Local Authority secondary school application / Common Application Form.
If a school is not named on your Common Application Form, your child will not be considered for a place there, even if they pass the relevant entrance tests.
National Secondary School Offer Day is Monday, 1 March 2027.
Important Notes for Parents

Special Educational Needs and Access Arrangements
If your child has a disability or special educational need that may affect access to the Kent Test, you should discuss this with your child’s primary school SENCO before registering. The school will need to apply for any necessary access arrangements.
Requests for access arrangements will not be accepted after Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
Kent Test Dates
The Kent Test dates are different depending on whether the child attends a Kent primary school.
| Child’s current school | Kent Test date |
|---|---|
| Child attends a Kent primary school | Thursday, 10 September 2026 |
| Child does not attend a Kent primary school | Weekend of 12 and 13 September 2026 |
Examination Format
The Kent Test papers are multiple-choice and are completed on a separate answer sheet.
The test includes:
- English and Mathematics paper: approximately 1 hour. Each section includes a short practice exercise followed by a timed test.
- Reasoning paper: approximately 1 hour. This includes verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning.
- Writing exercise: approximately 40 minutes, including planning time. This writing exercise is not marked as part of the test score but may be used by a local headteacher panel during the headteacher assessment stage.

Results and Scores
Kent Test results are due on Thursday, 15 October 2026. If an email address was provided during registration, the result will be emailed to that address.
Children receive three standardised scores:
- English
- Mathematics
- Reasoning
They also receive a total aggregate score. Scores are standardised, with an age adjustment so that younger children in the school year are not disadvantaged.
Kent County Council states that the grammar school threshold for 2026 will be available in October 2026.
Secondary School Application
Parents must still submit the secondary school application through their home Local Authority. Registering for the Kent Test is not the same as applying for a school place.
For Kent residents, Kent’s 2027/28 secondary admissions scheme states that completed applications must be submitted by:
Monday, 2 November 2026
Parents living outside Kent should follow the deadline and process set by their own home Local Authority. Nationally, the usual secondary application deadline is 31 October.
A Kent grammar school can only consider your child for a place if:
- your child has taken the Kent Test and been assessed as suitable for grammar school, and
- you have named that grammar school on your secondary school application form.
National Secondary School Offer Day is Monday, 1 March 2027.
Important Notes for Parents
- The Kent Test is used for admission to Kent grammar schools across the county.
- Registration opens on Monday, 1 June 2026 and closes on Wednesday, 1 July 2026.
- Children attending Kent primary schools sit the test on Thursday, 10 September 2026.
- Children not attending Kent primary schools sit the test over the weekend of 12 and 13 September 2026.
- Results are due on Thursday, 15 October 2026.
- The Kent Test is only valid for Kent grammar schools. Medway and Bexley have separate selection tests.
- Being assessed suitable for grammar school does not guarantee a place at a Kent grammar school.
- Kent grammar schools are often oversubscribed, so parents must read each school’s admissions criteria carefully.
- Parents must complete both steps: register for the Kent Test and submit the secondary school application through their home Local Authority.
- For Kent residents, Kent’s published 2027/28 scheme gives Monday, 2 November 2026 as the application deadline. Parents outside Kent should check their own Local Authority deadline.
- Always check the official Kent County Council website and individual grammar school admissions policies before making final decisions.
Last checked: 6 May 2026.
