Techniques and Exam Habits

Key rules and methods to solve Non-Verbal Odd One Out questions quickly and accurately.

Rule 1: Look for majority rule features first

Count line numbers, shading styles, and internal components across all 5 choices. If 4 shapes have an even number of sides and 1 has an odd number, the odd-sided shape is the outlier.

Rule 2: Check lines of symmetry and rotation

Often 4 figures are simple rotations of each other, while 1 is a reflected (mirrored) version. Verify chirality and orientation before confirming.

Example: Five figures each contain 3 nested shapes.
Shapes A, B, C, and E all have: Outer (shaded) → Middle (white) → Inner (shaded).
Shape D has: Outer (white) → Middle (shaded) → Inner (white).
Odd one out: Figure D (reversed shading order).
