BODMAS is a rule that helps you remember the correct order to solve maths problems. If you don’t follow BODMAS, you could get the wrong answer—even if your calculations are correct! In your 11+ BODMAS practice, you’ll often see problems that mix different operations—so you must know which step to do first.

BODMAS stands for:
Brackets
Orders (like squares or square roots)
Division
Multiplication
Addition
Subtraction

👉 Always solve anything in brackets first.
👉 Then do any powers or roots (orders).
👉 Next, work through division and multiplication from left to right.
👉 Finally, finish with addition and subtraction, again from left to right.

Example:

What is:
6 + (3 × 2)² ÷ 3

Step 1: Brackets → 3 × 2 = 6
Step 2: Orders → 6² = 36
Step 3: Division → 36 ÷ 3 = 12
Step 4: Addition → 6 + 12 = 18

✅ Final Answer: 18

Exam Tip:

In your 11+ BODMAS practice, if you’re stuck, underline the part of the sum you should do next, following BODMAS. Double-check the order before choosing your answer—many 11+ questions try to trick you!

Practise BODMAS questions regularly to build speed and accuracy. It’s a common topic in the 11+ Maths section, and it often appears in multi-step problems.
