Techniques and Exam Habits

Key rules and methods to solve Jumbled Sentences quickly and accurately.

Rule 1: Find the main verb and subject first

Start by spotting the action verb (e.g. jumped, built, decided) and the noun that performs it. This anchors the core sentence structure immediately.

Rule 2: Build the complete sentence before looking for the odd word

Never try to guess the extra word in isolation. Assemble the full valid sentence using all but one word; the leftover word is your correct answer.

Example: “yesterday / bought / book / he / blue / exciting / an”
Sentence: “He bought an exciting book yesterday.”
Leftover extra word: BLUE.
