Techniques and Exam Habits

Key rules and methods to solve Word Problems quickly and accurately.

Rule 1: Draw a simple timeline or relative ordering line

Do not hold multiple clues in your working memory. Sketch a quick horizontal line for order (left = earlier/shorter, right = later/taller).

Rule 2: Eliminate impossible answers after each clue

Each sentence in the problem eliminates certain candidate answers immediately. Cross them off to zero in on the only possible conclusion.

Example: Liam is older than Maya. Maya is older than Noah. Sam is younger than Noah.
Order from oldest to youngest: Liam > Maya > Noah > Sam.
Who is the youngest? SAM.
