Techniques and Exam Habits

Key rules and methods to solve Rotating Shapes quickly and accurately.

Rule 1: Rotation preserves chirality (handedness)

A rotated shape can never be a flipped/reflected shape. Track whether internal features are to the left or right of a central spine (clockwise vs anticlockwise).

Rule 2: Mental rotation in 90° increments

Mentally turn the figure 90° at a time or orient your perspective to match one key reference line (e.g. the flat base). Check if other features match.

Rotation vs Reflection: If a curved hook bends to the right in the original figure, turning it upside down (180°) must make it bend to the left. If it still bends right when upside down, it is a reflection!
